To understand how BOTOX, Dysport, Jeuveau, and DAXXIFY work, it’s important to understand how wrinkles form. Some wrinkles, such as the folds around the mouth, are caused by age-related fat loss and a reduction in skin elasticity. Other wrinkles, including crow’s feet and glabellar lines, or “11s” between the eyebrows, are caused by repetitive motion. Years of smiling, furrowing our brows, and making other facial expressions can actually leave permanent grooves in the muscles that exacerbate these wrinkles, called “dynamic” wrinkles. These are the lines that these treatments target.

BOTOX, Dysport, DAXXIFY, and Jeuveau are part of a class of drugs called neurotoxins. These products work by temporarily relaxing the muscles in the face that cause dynamic wrinkles for a subtly refreshed appearance that can improve your whole face. Both BOTOX and Dysport have been in use for cosmetic and medical indications for decades; their safety and efficacy are well established. Jeuveau, also called #NEWTOX, was clinically developed exclusively for cosmetic use. Your treatment session with Dr. Cash begins with a gentle cleansing of your face. She may also mark your targeted areas to ensure precise results. Dr. Cash uses a very fine needle to inject the product into the muscle. Each injection takes less than a second, and most appointments don’t exceed 30 minutes in total.
Because BOTOX, Dysport, and Jeuveau use the same active ingredient, the differences are subtle.
Depending on the wrinkles you wish to target, we may recommend BOTOX, Dysport, DAXXIFY, Jeuveau, dermal fillers, or a combination of these products to give you personalized results.
Most patients are able to return to their regular activities immediately after their appointments. However, you may experience mild redness, swelling, bruising, or itchiness at the injection site. These symptoms typically go away quickly and may be remedied with a cold compress. Dr. Cash typically advises patients to avoid strenuous exercise and activities that require bending for the remainder of the day in order to allow the product to distribute evenly and accurately.
Unlike dermal fillers, the results of BOTOX Cosmetic treatments typically take between 5 and 7 days to develop, while the results of DAXXIFY, Dysport, and Jeuveau emerge after 2 to 3 days. Results last for several months, and you may undergo additional treatments as soon as you begin to see treated wrinkles reemerge. Keep in mind, patient experiences vary.

BOTOX, Dysport, DAXXIFY, and Jeuveau use the same active ingredient, a protein called botulinum toxin type A. They work by blocking nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. Because botulinum toxin safely, and temporarily relaxes muscles when it’s injected by an experienced medical professional, it has been used for several decades to treat various medical conditions, including overactive bladder, overactive sweat glands, migraine headaches, and bothersome eyelid spasms.
Jeuveau, approved by the U.S. FDA in 2019, is the first new injectable treatment for dynamic wrinkles to be released in 10 years. It is manufactured using proprietary Hi-Pure technology, which may make it more potent and cost-effective than other neurotoxins.
DAXXIFY is uniquely powered by proprietary Peptide Exchange Technology™ (PXT). Unlike the other neuromodulators which use human serum albumin, Daxxify is considered vegan due to the use of PXT instead. PXT is what makes Daxxify last up to twice as long as the other neuromodulator treatments that I offer.
Yes. It is becoming more common for young adults in their late 20s and early 30s to come in for preventative BOTOX to avoid wrinkles in the first place.
There is no “right” age for your first BOTOX treatment. Whether you want to treat wrinkles proactively or smooth away the wrinkles you have, BOTOX treatments can be a safe and effective option.
Most patients say that neurotoxin injections don’t hurt any more than any other type of injection. Many compare the sensation to that of an insect bite or sting, and each injection lasts for less than a second. The overwhelming majority of Dr. Cash’s patients are able to get back to their usual activities immediately after their appointments and don’t require any sort of pain management with the exception of a cold compress.
Dr. Cash can use BOTOX injections to relax the muscles of the upper lip, allowing it to turn upward slightly (flip) to expose more of the reddish vermillion. The lip flip can make the upper lip look fuller without adding volume and is more subtle than lip injections with dermal fillers.
Patient needs vary when it comes to BOTOX depending on factors like the area being treated, whether you’ve had neurotoxin treatments before, and your sex. Dr. Cash will assess your needs during your consultation and give you an estimate of the total cost before administering any treatments.
