The desire to look and feel one’s best is universal, and one of the most common concerns men have about their physique is the "spare tire" or "love handles" around the midsection. Many men are predisposed to carry extra weight in this area, and no amount of dieting or crunches can achieve the waistline they desire. As plastic surgery becomes increasingly popular among men, "Body contouring for Men in Houston" led our 30-year-old patient to the right solution.
This patient, involved in a car accident over five years ago, experienced persistent swelling on the left side of his abdomen from the seatbelt injury. Additionally, hypothyroidism significantly influenced his weight. Standing at 5'9", he fluctuated from a high of 210lbs to his current weight of 175lbs, achieved through regular exercise. Initially, he sought liposuction as a sole solution to address his concerns, but upon examination, I observed significant soft tissue laxity, which made him less suitable for this approach. After reviewing his options and showing him before-and-after photos, we determined that an extended tummy tuck would best achieve the contour he desired.
In male tummy tucks, I focus on following the natural shape of the muscles to create a more defined midsection—without narrowing the waist, which is often a goal for female patients. During surgery, I removed 600 cc of fibrous fat from his trunk and central abdomen using VASER liposuction. Notably, he had redundant skin and stretch marks extending laterally, especially on the left side, where asymmetry from additional fullness and laxity was present. To address this, I slightly extended the incision to accommodate the excess tissue. I performed an extended abdominoplasty, removing 870 grams (1.9 lbs) of excess skin and tissue, and closed the incisions with progressive-tension sutures to optimize scar healing.
