Breast Implant Exchange and Revision Case #74

This 30 year old mother of two underwent breast augmentation surgery with silicone gel implants 6 years earlier with another surgeon.  She was initially happy with her results but several years later, after pregnancy and breastfeeding, she noticed changes in the appearance and feel of her breasts, particularly the left breast.  Her original surgeon recommended removing her left implant, which had been placed in subglandularly, and to then introduce a new implant in a new subpectoral ("under the muscle") pocket.  This patient came to see me for a second opinion where  we discussed the pros and cons of subpectoral placement of both implants versus subpectoral placement of implants with a mastopexy to address her desire to correct glandular ptosis (drooping).  Ultimately, this patient opted for a bilateral mastomexy (breast lift) with exchange of implants to a larger size.
