The Melanage® Skin Brightening System is a superficial peel designed to improve the texture and appearance of skin via an in-office masque application and an at-home regimen. There is no pain and little-to-no irritation during the application of the masque. Typically, the irritation level on the following 3-4 days is comparable to a sunburn.
How does it work?
The Melanage 1 Masque is applied during an office visit where it is compounded freshly to ensure its potency and reliability. The application of Masque is removed by the patient after a required length of time depending on skin type and concern. Patients leave the office with this masque on their face. Patients are given a set of an easy-to-follow, but strict, at-home regimen to adhere to. Our medical esthetician will walk you through these steps which involve the application of several Melanage products following masque removal.
What will I experience after treatment?
Your skin may have a light yellow tinge or slight redness after removal of the masque. The redness may last for the next seven days. Approximately 48 hours after the treatment your skin will start to peel, which will generally last 2-5 days. Patients must follow the at-home regimen for optimal results. You will be provided, at no additional charge, with an at-home skincare product kit containing an Anti-Redness Foaming Cleanser, Anti-Redness Soothing Balm, Antioxidant Soothing Balm Sunscreen SPF 30 and Melanage 2 Crème. This kit should last about 3 months.
What results can I expect?
Results will vary, but generally patients will see a significant improvement in skin texture and appearance. Although most patients experience superficial peeling of their skin, not every patient will notice this. If you do not notice actual peeling, please know that you are still receiving all the benefits of The Melanage Skin Brightening System, such as: stimulation of collagen production, improvement of skin tone and texture, and diminution of fine lines and pigmentation. Proper evaluation by a skin care professional prior to your peel is important, and will help predict the outcome of treatment.
Who should not be treated:
The Melanage Skin Brightening System SHOULD NOT be used on patients with active cold sores or warts, skin with open wounds, sunburn, excessively sensitive skin, dermatitis or in‑ammatory rosacea in the area to be treated. This peel is not recommended if you have taken Accutane within the past year, or received chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
The Melanage Skin Brightening System should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding (lactating) women.
